While he lays deep in a gorge
cold, hungry ‘n full of fear;
a veteran for his country
keeps his promise dear.
With one foot forward
he will persevere,
with hope and prayer
to get through another day-
seeing too much to bare
But for freedom for those
who cannot fight alone
his strength comes forth
‘n for this he knows,
a soldier is bound
to stand strong ‘n secure;
on any battle ground.
If he makes it home alive
completing yet another tour
his soul will be forever bound
for his country to be safe ‘n thrive.
