An unannounced visitor stops by a house designated for exclusive clientele. |
It wasnât until the third set of knocks that the door opened. She was a tiny thing, hair down past her shoulders, pulled back with a scarf to keep it off her face. Her light blue robe hung open and untied, the swell of her breasts barely concealed by the sheer top she wore underneath it. Big shiny eyes looked up through the screen door at the visitor. "Whatchu want?â The visitor, a big, wide shouldered man removed his hat, stepping closer to the screen. âAfternoon, Miss Lady. Ainâtcha gonna invite me inside?â She closed the robe, crossing her arms. âNigga, I donât know you. And you must not be from âround here to even have the nerve to step up on this porch.â He frowned. âWhy you say that?â She stepped closer to the door. âCause if you was, youâd know the only kinda men who come in here be white.â He raised his hands up to lean against the door frame, looking down at her. âSo you tellinâ me ainât no way for somebody like me to spend time witâ a angel like you?â She shook her head. "Look atcha.â He smiled, shaking his head, âSuch a pretty thang. I swear I could eat your lil' ass up right where you stand.â She smacked her lips. âMm hmm.â Câmon now,â he leaned in a little closer. âMust be some kinda way. I mean, damn. I got money.â The woman snorted. âNot the kine you need. Besides, the only way thatâd even matter was if you talk to the person that can make it happen.â He cocked his head. âNow who might that be?â "Jody.â "Jody? You canât tell me anymoreân that?â He shrugged. âProlly fiftyleven niggas âround here name Jody.â Her lips twisted to one side in a self satisfied smile. âSee now, if you was from âround here, Jodyâd be the only name you need.â He dipped his head, hands going up in mock surrender. âOkay, okay. I ainât from âround here. That beinâ said,â he stepped back up to the door, âwhere I need to go to find this here Jody?â She sighed, shaking her head. âPlenty of other places âround here to get some pussy besides here.â She uncrossed her arms, the robe falling open again. âWouldnât hafta worry âbout gettinâ yoâ ass beat that way.â He licked his lips, smiling. âMight be worth it.â She returned his smile, the corners of her eyes crinkling. âYou ask anybody in Collier Heights or Fourth Ward and they can tell you where to go. If he ainât somewhere in one he somewhere in the other one. You drivinâ?â He nodded. âShouldnât take you no time at all then.â âSo,â he leaned against the frame, âI find this here Jody and he alright witâ it, what happen next?â She shrugged. âYou tellâim which girl you want and where you stayinâ.â âThatâs it?â She nodded. âThatâs it.â He grinned. âAlright then, lemme go see to it.â He made to leave, pausing mid-turn. âSo, whatâs yoâ name?â She cocked her hips, crossing her arms again. âWhy?â âYou said Iâm gon hafta tellâim who I want. Ainât that right?â She nodded. âYeah.â âWell then, Iâm gon need to giveâim yoâ name.â She snorted. âYou ainât even seen the other girls yet.â He leaned in close again, forehead pressing against the screen a bit. âI donât need to see them other gals. I already know who I want.â She stepped closer, chin lowered looking up at him through hooded eyes, âMy mama named me Priscilla but 'round here they calls me Itty Bit.â His knuckles rapped the threshold lightly. âItty Bit," he mused, nodding. "Alright then.â âWhatâs yoâ name?â She said it quickly, before he made to leave again. âTyree.â He bent down until they were almost at eye level. âMake sure you remember that darlinâ.â She watched him walk away, his steps loud on the stairs as he descended them. "Right where you stand, Itty Bit,â he called over his shoulder. âEat you up right where you stand.â Tyree. Sheâd remember. |
