Syria faces economic collapse, the urgent need to rebuild trust specially from minorities

Syria’s Fragile New Beginning: A Nation Struggles to Rebuild After Regime Collapse
After decades under a dictatorial regime that left the country politically isolated and economically devastated, Syria has entered a new era. The collapse of the previous government has brought an end to one of the region’s most oppressive violent systems, but the road to recovery is fraught with serious challenges.
More than 80% of the population now lives in poverty, with widespread shortages of essential goods, particularly petroleum products.
Syria’s transitional president “Ahmad Alsharea” is facing a huge task of restoring stability, rebuilding trust, and uniting a deeply fractured society. One of the biggest challenges lies in addressing sectarian divisions, particularly the ongoing tensions between Sunni and Alawite communities. Clashes continue to erupt in the outskirts of major cities, undermining national unity efforts.
President Alsharea, a former Islamic leader, has so far struggled to govern through inclusive diplomacy. His continued reliance on military force to suppress unrest has alienated minority groups, including the Alawites, Druze, and Christians. As a result, his legitimacy is increasingly questioned across both majority and minority communities.
True freedom and progress will only be achieved when all sectors of Syrian society regardless of religion or ethnicity are represented and included in shaping the country’s future. The rule of law must replace military solutions as the primary means of resolving conflict. Furthermore, a trustworthy and independent media is essential. The new government must establish credible communication channels that speak to all citizens, fostering dialogue, transparency, and unity.
Syria’s path to recovery is not just about rebuilding institutions, it’s about healing a nation. Only through justice, inclusion, and accountable governance can the country hope to rise from the shadows of its past.Byline:
