Don't we all love our pets?

A ball of fluff,
A bundle of joy,
You run all around,
Enticed by your toy.

I watch and I cheer,
With love in my heart,
But deep down I fear,
This will all fall apart.

As you scramble and play,
On this summer's day,
My fearful mind wanders,
To a place far away.

A place where the rooms are covered in dust.
Your toys are retired, in a box of rust.
I sit all alone in a cold, cold bed.
Wishing, oh wishing,

You were no longer dead.
