How Gen Z freelancers embrace automation tools to thrive in today's digital economy. |
As a Gen Z freelance writer from Kenya, I often find myself walking the tightrope between tradition and innovation. In an era dominated by conversations around automation and AI, one thing has become clear to me and many others like me...we are not afraid of these tools. In fact, we are using them to thrive. For decades, automation has been painted as a job-stealing villain. But for today's digital natives, especially freelancers, it is more like a partner. From AI-powered grammar checkers to SEO content tools and gig platforms like Fiverr or Freelancer.com, we are learning to navigate and even embrace the shift. Take AI writing assistants, for example. Instead of replacing creativity, they have become brainstorming allies. They help us structure articles, overcome writer's block and even refine our tone. I still write with heart and originality, but having an extra "virtual editor" by my side saves time and boosts confidence. Freelancing platforms have also transformed how we work. No longer limited by geography or lack of connections, i now engage with clients across continents. Technology has made the global workforce truly accessible. It is not always easy- competition is fierce and rates can be discouraging...but the doors automation has opened are undeniable. I have spoken with other Gen Z creatives who feel the same. We are not trying to fight technology; we are trying to grow with it. We know that creativity, adaptability and human connection are still irreplaceable and we make sure to bring that to every project we take on. So yes, the world is changing. But so are we. And while automation may shape the tools we use, it does not define the value we bring. This is our hustle; human, tech-aware and evolving with the times. |
