Why Can't Some People Get It?

I looked at the array of stuff I had set out for sale in my garage. I’d worked hard on the display and price tagging. As I stepped into the open, despite the times on all the signs I’d plastered the area with, I bumped into people here already.
“Step inside and have a look, everything is priced to sell!”
Then, a guy asked me the million-dollar question.
“It’s not for sale,” I said.
As the day went on, more and more people, men mostly, asked that same question. With decreasing patience, I parroted the same reply. By 2:00, I needed a large, strong coffee.
Since I was working alone, I had to do without it. The items slowly dwindled, and the tables became bare. I had already determined that I would donate whatever didn’t sell to local charities after the weekend.
I was just packing up said items, when I heard the dreaded question again.
Turning on the questioner with fury, I grabbed a large piece of cardboard and scribbled on it in large letters.
“The garage is not for sale. If you buy the house and its contents at market value plus 50%, we can discuss it.”
That shut yet another jokester up! I took some deep breathes and tried to calm myself. Someone handed me a large coffee and a doughnut.
I threw a grateful look at them and noticed it was my favorite neighbor.
“How’s it going?”
“Almost sold out, except for the usual comedians who want to buy the garage itself.”
“Oh, those idiots! I see you did what I finally did at my sale,” she said gesturing at the huge sign.
“It was either that or murder a total stranger.”
We both laughed harder than the joke warranted.
