Flash Fiction

Win, Win

When I got home, I got a text note from my husband asking me to pick up some wine, he invited a new guy, and wife, to dinner tonight. My first response “What?!”

I have a day job too. I don’t spend time cleaning the house and making sure everything’s ready for company! And, why did he text me the note when I would have already gotten home, I work in a building right next to a liquor store! I turned around and left. Still had my coat on, thankfully, if I’d taken it off, I wouldn’t trust myself not to call him and yell his head off!

My husband is a cook, loves cooking. And he’s very good at it. I hate to cook, hated it well before I met John. The fact that he actually liked to cook just sealed the love. I think of cooking as another chore, like moping the floors. (Although, I kind of like mopping the floor…)

Still! He lives in this house too. Cooking daily is wonderful, I’m great at clearing up, doing the dishes etc. But cleaning the whole house because he invited “the new guy” and his wife to join us, unexpectedly, what was he thinking!

At the wine store there was a line. I grabbed the first bottle I saw (I don’t even drink) but six people in front of me at the cashier! Made it back home with less than an hour before they would show up!

So, I tidied the bathroom and shut the other rooms doors. Then, a new plan! I got the leaf blower and blew out the living room, like right out the front door!

The meal was a success! And, the leaf blower became my favorite dusting tool! Once again, win, win!!!!
