Heartbreak

A sunrise spills its gold across the sky,
awakening a bright new day,
and
folding the dark night softly behind.

I love you with every fibre of my being,
and
I cannot trust you.

My heart wants no other,
and
it is no longer safe with you.

If you need me, I will be here,
and
I cannot let myself need you again.

You once loved me fiercely, hopelessly,
and
you broke me completely, heartlessly.

A sunset drifts slowly to the horizon,
lets the day fall softly, a quiet ending,
and
holds nothing, making no promise of a tomorrow.
