| Daily Flash Fiction: Prompt for 12-28-2025 300 Write a story that includes the line: “I know the way.” Destiny “Be careful” said Sandra, adding, “That looks broken…” “It is, I dropped it, I’m an idiot. I had it in my pocket and started worrying that I forgot my wallet. I reached in too fast. This landed on the floor…” “Oh! It doesn’t look like something you’d have… you know, being a guy…” George laughed, “the purse isn’t mine; it’s my sisters. Andrea, forgot it and called me. She’s going somewhere after school and needs it.” Sandra laughed too. “I didn’t want to say anything, but it was so lovely I wanted you to know it was broken before it got worse.” “Well thank you! I will remember this as my sister yells my head off…” “I think there’s a way to fix it.” “Really? It looks beyond a bus ride to me…” “It’s not really broken, broken.” “Thank goodness! I was planning my funeral… What does not broken, broken mean?” “It means it came apart but can go back together if you know how to do it. And, I know the way.” George handed it to her. Sandra quickly switched around a couple spots, then slid an odd piece up. It clicked; it was fixed! She handed it to George. “Thank you so much! You saved my life!” “Not really…” Sandra said, smiling. “Apparently you haven’t met my sister…” Sandra laughed out loud. “Can I do something for you saving me? Could I buy you an ice cream at Colettes, or something…” “I love Colettes!” “Are you free after school today?” “For Colettes, always.” Four years later, they got married. Sandra and Andrea had become close friends too, so Andrea was her maid of honor. Instead of a bouquet of flowers, Andrea walked up the aisle carrying that lovely purse. Everyone heard the story before the day was done. |
