Empress Calista and the Crabby Crickets

A children's story about a sassy calico

Once there was a sassy little cat, who was named by the humans at the animal shelter. They called her Cali because she was a calico, and nobody had adopted her yet. The humans were afraid nobody would want her, she was the only kitty left who wasn't a baby kitten anymore.

The one day, a very sad lady walked in to the shelter. Her husband had passed away only a month ago, and she was so lonely and sad. The lady had wanted a kitty, but her husband had always said no. Now she was alone. So this very day, the lady walked in to the shelter and asked to see the kitties.

Cali lay alone in her cage. She had heard the lady walk in, but she didn't dare to look up. Poor Cali had been disappointed so many times. All the other kitties her age had been adopted. She had hoped against hope that some kind human would take her home, but they all wanted the baby kittens. Cali just sighed and shook her little head.

But now the footsteps came closer! One of the humans opened the cage! What was happening? The human who worked here picked Cali up and handed her to a lady she had never seen before. Was it true? Was Cali finally going to go home?
