It wasn't when he held her hand, but touched her ankle that made her smile

They lay together
Yet apart
A cliché of fear and wanting
She wanted to tell him
Hold him
Feel him
Remained silent and still
Afraid he would laugh
Or worse
Reject her
Cut and dry
Short and sweet
Monosyllabic rejection

They lay together
Yet apart
Morpheus' silent touch
Rhythmic breathing
Still the night
Slight movement
His foot finds her slender ankle
Tentative caresses
Slowly they move together
Entwined, entangled, enthralled
Want and need
Soft and sweet
Fulfilled acceptance
