the pain of a bad relationship

Drowning in the darkness
I reach with trembling hand.
Searching for the safety
That's just beyond my touch.

Through emptiness I struggle
Against the cruelty of your words
Begging for the inner strength
You crumbled in your hands.

My eyes once filled with laughter
Now reflect my soul
As broken as the promises
You made to me each day.

Through hopelessness I long for
This hold you have to break
So instead of just existing
I'll live my life once more.
