I challenged my wife to a poem contest using Wolf's Rain as the title. This was mine. |
| Wolf's Rain The clouds gather with despair Determined to wash away the grime Of the atrocity committed Against an animal in its prime Rain falls down like weeping tears It lands softly upon the fur Rivulets caress along the muzzle Hoping the wolf will make a stir Eyes still closed the head raises Towards the gentleness of the rain The wolf struggles and tries to stand Falling down it succumbs to the pain Tendrils of water mingle with blood Where the cold steel teeth are locked Around the wolf’s now broken leg Its days of freedom forever mocked The rain probes around the stake Wishing it had the strength To pull the steel out from the ground And free the wolf from cruel constraints The wolf lifts its head one last time And with its final breath Howls thanks to the warm rain For the comfort before its death |
