Summary of this Book...
This book was written and published in the early 1970's and it is out of print. I had to secure a copy on Ebay. It is the book that inspired the 1970's series, "The Six Million Dollar Man." Test pilot Steve Austin is severely injured during a test flight and is put back together using bionic parts - fusing man and machine. The rest of the book is how Steve struggles to retain his humanity while performing missions for the OSI.
This type of Book is good for...
It's science fiction, so if you want a sci-fi, action/adventure escape, this is a book you might want to consider.
I especially liked... | ||
I liked the concept of the bionics and the action/adventure aspects of the novel.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
Find out more about the author, Martin Caidin, because it sounds like he had quite an imagination, but what I found out about him, made sense. He has a military and government background and writes from that perspective.
This Book made me feel...
Intrigued. I'm enjoying watching the Bionic Woman and 6 Million Dollar Man on demand.
The author of this Book...
I talked about him above. As for his writing, he was writing for his time - the 1970's. There are places his writing is a bit stilted, and awkward. It's very "male" oriented and he doesn't treat his female characters with enough respect.
I recommend this Book because...
It's a look into a culture that, perhaps, is a bit lost to us. As a reader, you can see how it inspired the Bionic Woman and Bionic Man series.
Further Comments... | ||
The book tells a solid story and Steve's journey, from human, to cyborg, to grab hold of his humanity and retain it is a solid, emotional story.
