 Name one thing you wish your cell phone did for you that it currently does not. My phone is a Blu with Android OS. It lost the brightness function is so dim that I cannot read the screen in the daylight. I have to go in a dark room, or deep shadow to see it at all. When it rings, I can answer the call most times. To call someone I have to seek the darkness. Not very practical. But it looks cool when I carry it. Our Wi-Fi signal is so flaky here that I’m not in a hurry to replace it. The phone service company calls to tell me when I’m going to run out of money on the time charge. I get all the ads for great buys on new phones. Plus some wrong-number calls from some guy trying to reach some lady in Spanish. Go firgure. Later...>>>iggy  >>>    |
| Just for a minute imagine that mystery drawer....you know the one that collects everything under the sun, we all have one. Without opening, tell us what is in there and why? Do you really use the things that are there? Once you've written what you think, go peek... are you right about what lingers in that mystery drawer. Some of my friends have kitchens full of drawers that are mystery drawers and usually three or four of everything. Also have you checked those refrigerator door narrow shelves? And in the back of the freezer compartment? On the sailboat, I have two drawers under my bed. The top one has receipts zip-locked by the month, a air-tight container for pens and pencils, leads & writing tools. Also the hair cutting sicissors, bagged. Thank God for ziplock bags. Sea air causes rust and mildew. And the termites love the paper things. The second drawer has art supplies, Tempera, acrylic paint, brushes. There’s a package of Citronella candles and some marking pens. There is no space for mystery things. The kitchen side of the compartment does not have drawers, only deep shelves with high lips so things won’t slide out when the boat hits the waves. The few paper files and documents that we all must have are in a water-tight lock box. It is amazing what we don’t need, but have the intense desire to keep anyway. I think I’ve gotten over that urge and keep only essentials now. Keep less & make room for more stuff...>>>iggy |

Prompt: Overthinking--Do you think that overthinking creates problems? Has it ever created problems for you, your family and friends, or for the characters in your stories? Rarely do I meet someone who overthinks. It is usually that they hardly think at all! In many in-depth reviews I do, I am urging the writer to think like the character and show me what’s happening. I’m pleading for details, texture, color in their writing. Some folks get caught in ‘what if?’ and never see the real situation. They spend all their time and energy speculating about what MIGHT happen. That;s a definite form of overthinking. Overthinkers never finish a project. There is always something that is not quite right and they have to adjust and then readjust, driving everyone around them crazy. Also people who cannot make a decision about what to buy or eat or wear. =========== |
| This week I have not blogged. I took on a job away from home (the boat) with much traveling, plus I’ve been doing many in-depth reviews in any spare time I’m awake. I’m hoping for things to settle down to just normal chaos. Julia Cameron says, " We have hidden associations with the term " Writer". Do you agree or disagree? Writers are...the creative source of most things we see and hear and read Writers are...a mirror to the world Writers are...easy to manipulate with offers of wealth. Writers are...failing the world in a quest for the truth. Now, Convert the negative associations to positive. I pray for a better world that works, but right now the top 1% have a very tight lock on what writers are allowed to write about. The few that step forward are my heros. | Do you ever watch how-to videos on YouTube? Tell us about a lesson you learned from watching a video. Very rare and seldom do I have a strong enough signal to download a YouTube video. In out third-world technology the equipment I have takes about 1 minute to load 2 or 3 seconds---then wait another minute for the next tiny piece. And more and more the news items are presented as video. I just see the headline and move on looking for a text report. You see the transition to a visual graphic type of news and information beyond what was once limited to television. Now your telephone is a computer capable of receiving Internet and television broadcast. Watch Facebook, they are merging everything even more. Also notice the stream of advertising that must download first before any significant information appears on a website. And many times it is specifically aimed at YOU. | THE POWER OF WORDS A Sunday awareness blog for curious minds... The general population of the planet is going to be told that this agenda is “voluntary” and that it is all about “ending poverty” and “fighting climate change”, but that is not the full story. Unfortunately, there is so much positive spin around this plan that most people will not be able to see through it. Just check out an excerpt from a piece that was published on the official UN website yesterday… The excerpt reads: The United Nations General Assembly today approved a resolution sending the draft ‘2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development’ to Member States for adoption later this month, bringing the international community “to the cusp of decisions that can help realize the… dream of a world of peace and dignity for all,” according to Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. With world leaders expected to adopt the text at a 25-27 September summit in New York, the UN chief said Agenda 2030 aims high, seeking to put people at the centre of development; foster human well-being, prosperity, peace and justice on a healthy planet and pursue respect for the human rights of all people and gender equality. Doesn’t it all sound so nice and peaceful? But what is “sustainable development?” Patrick Wood, an economist and author of “Technocracy Rising: The Trojan Horse of Global Transformation, says “it’s clear the U.N. and its supporters see sustainable development as more than just the way to a cleaner environment. Prompts can be political, scientific, inspirational or give an incintive to rant. A polling question wants a very short response. Like *YES* or *NEVER* or *NONE OF THE ABOVE* or... Is this a writing prompt about a polling question. What kind of question are we discussing here? Poll questions can be political, scientific, and inspite of their seemingly neutral questions, give an incintive to rant. A writing prompt expects a longish, thoughtful response. Like, I could write a poem, or a flash fiction story, or tell what happens later today when I go to the Carnival Parade for the Belize Independence celebration. (They do wonderful things with feathers!) I think political polls are boring. They’re always different tomorrow. | Prompt: “A grower of turnips or a shaper of clay, a Commot farmer or a king--every man is a hero if he strives more for others than for himself alone.” Lloyd Alexander, The High King Whether you agree or not with the above quote, in your opinion, which character traits make a hero of any person? I agree. A person who is in service for others is always a hero in my books. (literally) My primary character in Knights of Sparrow, Paloo, is a exceptional horse trainer and has to learn how to teach mean with kindness and respect. I have little respect for those folks who are in service for self. They are missing out on so much of life with their focus on possessions, influence, always trying to impress. They pass through my life all the time, and I do mean ‘pass through’. We have so many men and women these days in service jobs. Maybe they used to be white-collar, but times have changed. To be in service of others, you can’t be reminding customers or clients that you are too good for the position of server. You will hate your job and get no satisfaction out of it. Of course, characters like that make good antagonists in stories. It seems a conflict of interest for a politician to be in service of self, but so many are. Screwy world we live in. | Prompt: The person sitting next to you on the plane is quite talkative. Do you try to switch seats or make this person your new best friend? It depends on who is sitting next to me. The seats are smaller and closer together. One has to deal with those who invade your narrow space with their elbows and inane comments---those I do not talk to. There are other who are polite, interesting, and willing to share a conversation, not totally about themselves. Topics such as religion, politics and racism are dangerous and usually a turnoff. I don’t usually fly alone so I know who’s sitting next to me. Ha! The best people to meet are writers, artists, and musicians, then come dancers, actors and theater technicians, followed by movie folk. I ride buses and trains a lot, and it’s rare that the other person in the seat says anything. Each in their own world, and only shared with their phone. Young people do not talk to old people, and in Central America the young do not give their seats to old men or women with babies. The old women are strong enough to demand a seat and usually get it. In France the trains had special seats for the elderly. Very nice. In Iran, they always gave me a seat with curtesy and a smile. Plus if you share a seat, they often offer food or snacks. They love Americans and always have many questions. They only know about California and New York. Write on...>>>iggy |
| What is a valuable lesson you learned from a teacher? I had an art teacher in high school that encouraged me more than any other teacher. He got me involved in painting sets for the Christmas Pageant. That transitioned into working in the Drama Department building sets and learning more about painting and lighting, which led to a job with the Stage Hands Union. From the Drama teacher I learned to have confidence in my abilities, which led to an undergraduate assistantship my first quarter at Univ.of Denver. Wow! I owe a great deal to a number of very fine teachers. From my professor at DU I learned how to duplicate and paint other designer’s work in their style. Scene painters have to work from detailed color illustrations down to scribbles on a napkin and keep the designer happy. I did a lot of those jobs before I got to paint my own designs. From my piano teacher I learned about dedication and accuracy when working with music. She also taught me to sit up straight, and I’ve never forgotten. I sit up straight when I type! From my Dance teacher, Hanya Holme in NY, I learned more about discipline and control and how to teach dance. Little pieces of my life filter out. That’s what blogging does, you know.
