I'm going to start today to record on a daily basis whatever happens to strike my fancy. So, it is a very cool breezy day. I just posted 5 short book reviews to The Monthly Reading Challenge. I'm suppose to put away some winter wood today from the woodpile outside but I'm playing hookey from work to write so starting this blog will get done.

I'm having a daily fight with a flock of English Sparrows that are trying to take over my barn. They are making a terrible mess so they have to go. I have destroyed several nests so far they don't leave but they get out of the barn when I am around. I'm just starting the fight so I guess I don't know how far I have to go to discourage them.

I'm trying not to spread myself to thin on WDC because I find so many things that are interesting here and I am trying to work on a new story. I really enjoy sitting at my desk with a cup of tea and reading blogs on WDC.

Some years back Dune by Frant Herbert struck me as an allegory of some Catholic church doctrines. I was not impressed with that story either. Game of Thrones reminded me of Dune. Both books had their own story. Also seemed to have something else going on inside the story.

Tell me about the Bible being used as a weapon? I read it as a look into passed historical reality.

Muslims, Jews, Christians, women's rights, ageing populations, health issues, insurance prices, and others, all must be the targets.

sadly, the Bible is being used as a weapon.

I've never read Game of Thrones or watched the series. I did play Gaby's game here on WDC but didn't know any of the background.

I never got swept up with GoT. Lord of the Rings? Read it in a weekend (I think) many years ago.

Do books reflect or influence culture? Of course. The Bible is still used as a weapon of war by many Americans.

I love the craft fairs but not shopping in the bigger stores. When I was laid up after my back surgery I watched a few Christmas in July movies on Hallmark.

Clothing is definitely more expensive these days, sales matter.

My paternal uncle lived near my grandfather.

My maternal grandmother lived close to family in the hollow.

My father's family tended to live close, even moving together to Oklahoma and South Carolina.

My mother's family scattered.

I wish... but we both know about wishes without wings.

My experience in Thailand was mixed, but I don't doubt that families remain close as friends often do. In Costa Rica it can be multi-generations living in the same area.

And I'm spending a lot of time teaching my granddaughter sewing and crocheting, I love that.

I used to spend every summer with my grandfather and I loved it. During the school year I would spend weekends at my other grandparents and I enjoyed that time very much.

As a grandparent my older grandchildren would spend the summer with me. Then in 2021 when my daughter (my youngest) and her boyfriend split she asked for help, so we moved to Vegas. We share a house together, my husband, my daughter, my granddaughter and me. It works for all of us.

English Writing and Speech

It is said, the English language is very difficult to learn because of all the commonly spelled words there are. Do you agree or disagree? How many words can you think of that you think are easily confusing? And words that you think are commonly misspelled? Do you find yourself checking to be sure when you're writing or let spell check find them?

Hi.

I disagree. One of the classes I liked the most in my senior year in High School was English. Lots of words have to be used correctly, no matter what language you are using. Each word has its' own meaning.

Here are some sound alike words: here and hear, to-two-too, then-than, won or one. Each word has its' own use.

I like spell check. Even if you use spell check or the program, that follows you as you type, you have to know if the corrections make sense, with the way the word was used. I try to correct as I write, because it makes editing easier for me. I keep a handy English grammar book close, because I tend to punctuate the way I think, which does not always follow some rule, that a reviewer wants to see, in written works.

It is my phone typing that can be aggravating, the spellcheck on it will literally change words if it does not understand the context of the conversation. Or change a sentence and write something I did not say? Or write something that has no meaning within the conversation. I always blame AI.
