Our new look! We're excited for this fresh, new season... which is perfect, because we're launching some fresh, new updates to Writing.Com! You might notice that Writing.Com has a brand new, more streamlined and current look. We've added padding, a bit of spacing, more imagery, and an all-around happier feel to the site. We've moved away from the old version that was too wordy, very cramped and not streamlined at all. We've been working on this new, fresh version of Writing.Com for a few months now and the response to it has been fantastic! A lot of hard work has gone into testing and debugging our updates, but if you find something along your journey that confuses you or doesn't work quite like you thought it should, please visit "Beta Tests: Comments" and let us know right away! Many of the changes you'll notice are visual, but we've also cleaned up the tools and mechanics of Writing.Com, as well. "Likes" can now be added to forum posts, blog entries, and blog comments. "Authors", "Public Reviews" and item listings received our favorite updates. The Hub boxes can now be moved and reordered to suit your preference! Item Covers have been given more of a presence. Tools have been combined and streamlined in portfolios and individual items. Item creation and edit forms are now clean and simple. Blogs Blogs are a wonderful way to journal everything from your daily thoughts to themes to progress on your projects and much more. As an ongoing writing exercise, the possibilities are endless and because of that, they now have a renewed focus at Writing.Com! You'll notice the new "Blogs" link in the left side navigation, which will lead you to a listing of the most recently updated blogs. If you have a blog, head in there to check out the new updates you have. If you've got an Upgraded Membership or above and don't have one yet, head to your "Blog" tab in your portfolio and start one! An Ongoing Process While most areas within Writing.Com have been updated, there are still some nooks and crannies that have not yet been touched. Rest assured, we will get to them and we have many more wonderful things in store for all of you! Happy spring, indeed! We welcome your comments, suggestions, bug reports, questions, etc. Please post in:

Greetings! The newest update to Writing.Com has hit the open testing stage. Our beta site can be accessed at: http://beta.writing.com/ A few important comments: "Beta" means not everything is complete and there are likely still bugs. That means if you try it out for us, please be patient if something doesn't work as expected and let us know as clearly as possible what went wrong in our forum: "Beta Tests: Comments" ... On the other hand, there are lots of upgrades, updates and fixes for old bugs, so going beta has it's advantages! This is an ever growing update. We realize there are a lot of nooks and crannies within the site that have not yet been updated. We plan to follow through the updates to all these portions of the site, but they may not all be done by final release. Our initial goal is to update most of the places within Writing.Com that most people use, well, most. We are aware of a number of lingering issues on iPhones, iPads and potentially other mobile devices. We have done very limited debugging on the mobile end at this point. Some of these are known and some have not been looked for yet. If you share Writing.Com links with anyone, do not post, link or share a "beta" URL. It is OK to tell someone about the beta site and provide the URL (or point them to this News post)... we just don't want lots of "beta.writing.com/ThisOrThat" URLs floating around the net... After following some links within the beta site, you may lose the "beta" from your Writing.Com URL in the browser's location bar. If you do, you can just edit the URL and put it back. You can also compare old and new page looks by switching any "www.writing.com" URL to a "beta.writing.com" or vice versa. For example, check out our General Discussion forum's on both versions with these URLs: http://beta.writing.com/main/forums/item_id/100931-WritingCom-General-Discussion... http://www.writing.com/main/forums/item_id/100931-WritingCom-General-Discussion We welcome your comments, suggestions, bug reports, questions, etc. Please post in:

The newest video in the series I'm working on... Linking to an Item. We know this is such a common question, so I wanted to showcase this simple Writing.Com tool. Hopefully, this will make it a lot easier for people to not only understand, but help point folks in the right direction to learn how to do it. Video: Linking to an Item Also, note that in "Writing.Com 101" , we've now included a link in the Table of Contents to Writing.Com Tutorial Videos (Vimeo), which will take you right to our page on vimeo.com. Our page there will house all of our tutorials, so bookmark it (or don't, since it's in 101). Hope you are finding these helpful... more to come! Next up, Full Screen Edit for Premium Memberships! NEW! Have you seen the new Request a Review page linked in the "Things To Do & Read" menu? It's the perfect way to find a reviewer or few! (It's also linked from your new "Item Tools" drop down menu on any of your individual items.) Want to earn a Merit Badge? Go to the Request a Review page and request a review. Then, head to The StoryMaster 's Notebook (http://www.writing.com/main/profile/notebook/storymaster) and comment with an {item:} tag to the item you used in your request. He'll dish out Courage merit badges to anyone who completes this task by Sunday @ 11:59pm WDC time! Want To Be Included? Notice the look of that Request a Review page... you might want to make sure your own "Reviews" tab is filled out so that you show up on that page. The only members that will rotate on there are the ones who have their "Review Style" completed on their "Reviews" tab! Enjoy! The StoryMistress |
