I don't recall ever playing with mercury, but I certainly remember mercury-based thermometers. Nowadays, of course, thermometers are mostly digital. As far as the insidiousness of "racism and bigotry training" is concerned - yup.

My mother didn't tolerate swear words. Her father was very strict.

I was never good at jokes.

I do remember Ivory Snow as that was what we used. I prefer to use Dove now.

My son has the same problem gagging on tomatoes although he can do ketchup. I hate the horsestuff, too, although I can take a tiny dab here or there, but it just burns. Only yellow mustard for me. I always pay good attention when ordering any deli sandwich and ask for "yellow" and watch as they make it.

I turned 18 in time to vote for Jimmy Carter in 1976. I was proud to support a decent, educated man who served his country. He studied engineering and served as a submarine officer aboard the USS Pomfret. He later became involved in the Navy's nuclear program and participated in the cleanup that followed a reactor accident at Canada's Chalk River Laboratories. Lieutenant Carter put on protective gear and took his turn being lowered into the hot zone to disassemble the damaged reactor. His more well-known career in politics was noted for humility, kindness, and compassion. Jimmy Carte was a man of heroic courage who spent his entire life in public service. I only wish that America could see his example as something to be emulated rather than ridiculed.

Well they deserved the recognition as they definitely made an impact on the last century. Unfortunately, so much of it was negative. Many, not just Time, seem to equate power with greatness.

Jimmy Carter was a great person... (1924-2024).

Yeah... and he may be prez again. He gets away with everything. It's his greatest talent. That, and instilling fear... and lying.

I think... Harris/Walz (a.k.a Brat&brats) needs to be ahead by 5% or 8 million votes to squeak by. If they don't get ahead by more than 3% in Congress, they will get little support from there.

But Americans vote out of fear. There are many who fear the raising cost of food (it is), the price of gasoline (because...), and criminal immigrants stealing their last piece of pie (they aren't... and they aren't).

DJT is running scared though... The forecast for November is stormy.

“Number 42 was the original DEI hire,” smirked President Trump as he signed an executive order directing Major League Baseball to remove all references to Jackie Robinson from their Jackie Robinson Day celebration. "If we're gonna celebrate a number, then let's do 47. Your favorite president is a real winner. That Robinson guy never won an election, and he never drew crowds as big as mine!"
“And we're finally going to re-integrate baseball,” the president continued. "It's time that foreign players stopped taking jobs from real Americans. The MLB can stop the DEI hiring policies or I'll do it for them. I'm calling on the Dominicans, Cubans, and especially the Venezuelans to self-deport or face going to prison in El Salvador. And the NFL better pay attention, I'm coming for them next!"
