Hello, everyone. I'm a newb on WDC. I am looking for help on writing a story. I have a book that I read on writing my first novel, but until I get my reading glasses is less than ten days, it would be difficult for me to read. Hopefully I get them sooner. I could use some ideas on a novel that is sci-fi and fantasy together. If anyone can be of any assistance, please let me know.
What do you need help with? When writing long pieces, I always start with the characters. Strong, well developed characters should be able to tell your story for you. Come up with your initial idea, fully flesh out your characters, rough outline the plot (I personally do this about a million times before I'm done haha), flesh out your fictional world and plunk your characters in. See where it takes you. It's all about finding what works best for you.
I have a hard time opening my imagination when it comes to writing a fictional story, especially when fictionally there is no limit. Fictionally, you can go where the universe takes you, so to speak, in a sci-fi novel. Plus, the story I'm working on now is part sci-fi. How do I work with such a broad range of imagination?
I'm the same way, but you have to set limits for yourself. I write post apocalyptic sci-fi so my fictional world is huge, but I've learned over the years that outlining the plot can help you focus on which part of your fictional world to focus on.
