I think the purple "patch" is just a section of the story that is "purple." You know, you're going along with a normal writer, and then he just suddenly starts flipping out, acting like he's trying to use as many similes and metaphors and poetic stuff as he possibly can. Then just as suddenly, he's a normal person again.
