Hi Emma! I'm so thrilled to see you here, with all of your great writing! I must say that I'm encouraged to see what you've written, just in your bio and posts, because of your attention to detail. And you punctuate your sentences-which I'm finding strangely absent in some younger people who want to be writers(!) these days. You've giving me hope! ![]() I think I saw a note to you from Annette, perhaps, suggesting that you show your parents this site and what it's all about. I second that motion if it'll get them to allow you some time here over the summer. The writers here are from all over the world with all kinds of backgrounds, and you can learn so much - I learn from others here every day by sharing, reading, reviewing, chatting. You already know this. Maybe your parents will read this message ![]() ![]() You're smart. You can look hover over authors' briefcases to see how long they've been on WDC - the "old timers" are definitely serious writers who aren't going to try to lead you astray. The Mods are great at watching the Newsfeed to keep an eye out for anyone who might seem flaky, but I think it's a rare occurrence here. I'm just an older writer and enjoy helping the younger crowd (though I'm not much of a mentor; I'm pretty new around here). If we don't see you a lot over the summer, I hope we see you in the fall. Whatever you do, keep writing! Cheers! BA |
Thank you for your reassurance for Emma and her family. Having a great granddaughter of Emma’s age I feel a sense of responsibility to one who is so open and trusting. I know everyone here who has been taken by her obvious talent and lovely nature has her best interest at heart. There is still a reason to be cautious and I agree her parents would surely be happier to know there are many who are watching out for her. Thanks again. |
Hey guys, I have bad news. Today is my last day on WdC - at least until the next three months. I will try my best to log in if my parents allow me to, but I can guarantee this. I have only been on this site for, what? A month? It hasn't been that long, but I have seen my writing and creativity improve nonetheless. Everyone here so far has been incredibly supporting and kind, but these are just a few people that have really stood out to me: First off, the person I have enjoyed the most on this site, My Sox Rox ![]() ![]() These are the other people on here who I have found inspiring in one way or another with either their writing or their kindness: Sumojo ![]() ![]() Schnujo ![]() ![]() Richard's Harvest Begins! ![]() ![]() Lilli ☕️ 🧿 ![]() ![]() Princess Megan Rose ![]() ![]() TJ; Pronounced Tea-Jay ![]() ![]() The StoryMistress ![]() ![]() 🤍RookieTea🤍 ![]() ![]() Buddhangela's Brave & Crazy ![]() ![]() LorenIsOneOfMyNames ![]() ![]() John ![]() ![]() Annette ![]() ![]() Showering Dutchessbarbie. ![]() ![]() 🌕 HuntersMoon ![]() ![]() Sophy ![]() ![]() Andy~hating university ![]() ![]() ♥ Leger ♥ ![]() ![]() Sum1 🛥 ![]() ![]() Charity Marie > 🇺🇦 ![]() ![]() ♥HOOves♥ ![]() ![]() jondakota Jayne ![]() ![]() Next, I would just like to point out a few contests I think should be recognized. First, one contest I have really enjoyed, called "The Writer's Cramp." If you are feeling like you have been lacking in creativity or having a bit of writer's block, this is the contest to use. With a new prompt everyday, the winner of that prompt will receive 10K GPs.
Other good contests or activities include:
Thank you to all of you for being so encouraging and kind. I appreciate it. This past month has been a good one. I have a few items in my portfolio that haven't been reviewed. I would highly appreciate anyone who took a look at them - even a short review is fine by me. Have an awesome day, guys! |
Hi Emma, I have read through your blog and enjoyed everything! I will read the other things you have posted soon. I just had my 14th anniversary of being on this site. I love it but I take spells being on here. I write mostly short stories also. I raised my granddaughter so I understand your parents' concerns about using the internet. I would suggest that you sit down with them and show them how to use WDC and how it works. I think it is a safe place to be putting your writing for others to read. You are an author now. You will be published someday if you continue to work at it and learn. I am 72 years old and still learning! Keep Writing and I'll keep reading! Dianne |
As you know, the school year is coming to an end (I am going into eighth grade next year. Woo-hoo!). When the school year ends, the school takes back our school chromebooks that they provided us until the following year. Since I have been using WDC on my school chromebook, this means that I will not be able to use WDC until next school year, which is in about three months. They will be taking our chromebooks back in about a week, so I have a week to get the rest of my stories and stuff onto WDC. I hope you guys will still remember me by then! This has definitely been a great adventure and improved my writing a lot, even though I have only been here for a short amount of time. The people here are so supporting, encouraging, and kind! Thank you! I would also highly appreciate it if you read some of my stories and gave them reviews. Once again, thank you! |
Thanks for the advice Annette, but unfortunately I am thirteen years old and my parents are pretty over-protective. So I don't have a phone. My parents threw a fit when I told them about WDC! |
Emma ![]() They are right to want to know what you do online. It's a big world full of a lot of very bad sites. Writing.Com is not one of those, but the majority of members are well over 18, so your parents' concern is righteous. Do lots fun stuff over summer. ![]() You can write on paper and later type it into items here. ![]() |
I sincerely hope that you are able, from time to time, to log in and share with us. Perhaps it would be a good way for your parents to see more of what WDC is all about. Here's wishing you the very best; have a wonderful summer. |
Are you bored and want to read a random blog about a random teenager girl's life (seriously, I'm thirteen years old)? Well then, this blog will be perfect for you!!

What helps you find the right title for your story or book? |
Most of my characters are derived from people I have met or know. Some are made up of characters I invented for a specific story but used in a different way for a different story. The novel I am writing now has two characters I made up for D&D when I was in college, 40 years ago. I guess it just depends on the story I want to tell. |
Hey guys...this is a One Tree Hill spoiler. So if you haven't gotten past Season 3, you might not want to read this. Have you ever watched the show One Tree Hill? It's a great show (on Hulu if you ever want to watch it), but anyways, that's besides the point. My mom and I were watching an episode of One Tree HIll. And let me tell you. It was the saddest episode ever. Season 3. Episode 16. The first thing that told me that this episode was going to be different was when at the beginning there was a screen of about a paragraph of words warning parents about the things this episode was going to contain. My mom has already watched the whole show, so she warned me that if it came to be too much for me, she would turn it off. Basically what happened was Jimmy, a boy at Tree Hill High, brought a gun to school. After some bullies decided to mess up his locker, Jimmy pulled the trigger. You could see the shock on Jimmy's own face after he pulled the trigger - like he didn't even think that he would do it. Jimmy accidentally shot a girl in the leg, Peyton. The whole school went psycho after that, because after all, it is a school shooting. Jimmy held seven kids hostage in a room after that. One of them called 9-1-1 on her phone, which got him even more upset and made him threaten to shoot them. He made them make a line of tape across the center of the room, and told the hostages that if they crossed the line he would shoot them. One of the boys went across the line, daring Jimmy to shoot him, but another person punched the guy who crossed the line so that he wouldn't have to make the choice. Jimmy was hurt. He confessed his feelings and how alone he has felt in high school. He said that the best day of his life was the one day whenever no one looked at him or talked to him the whole day. You could see his hurt, and it was utterly depressing. Towards the end, Keith Scott comes into the building and tries to reason with Jimmy. Jimmy tells him that there is no coming back from this. That this felt like the only way all of the bullying and the hurt he felt would go away. And, at the end, Jimmy committed suicide. I just want you all to know that if you see someone, even if you don't recognize them, please be nice. A simple smile, a simple compliment might go a long way. Sometimes, you can get so consumed in your own feelings that you don't notice you're ignoring the others around you. |
Question... How do you report someone on this site? Is it possible? If so, please tell me. Someone made an inappropriate comment and I don't want anyone else to see it. I don't want anyone's feelings to get hurt. |
If its a comment there should be a big x below their comment and beside it it says report. Otherwise all I know of is deleting their comment |
As Rookie Tea stated, you can use the big X, and if it's outside of the rules of the site, perhaps let one of our wonderful moderators or even the Story Master know who and what. |
Those posts are gone, finally. As for the person who posted it, I think this states it all... |
![]() ![]() I see you needed to know how to post on contest. Hope this helps:
Check out the Writing. Com Tools tab on the side bar for ML helps too! ![]() And keep asking questions! Soon you will be a pro. eyestar "WdC SuperPower Reviewers Group" ![]() |
For those of you who have your own blog... What do you try to include in a blog? What should you not have in a blog? I am thinking of having my own blog, but I'm not sure I have what it takes quite yet. |
There are several groups that offer blogging prompts, several of them are listed here;
You can also use your blog just to post about whatever you are doing, things you find interesting, or things you'd like to do. Perhaps places you've been or would like to go to. The music you like. In short a blog can be anything you want it to be. |
My blog is focused on my writing. I've found a blog with a definite theme or topic is easier to write for and easier for readers to get into. They know what they are going to get. |
