I have some experience with this as my family has survived fire and floods that have seemingly taken everything but our souls... three times now. But with the support of friends, family, and a bit of insurance we once again own more than we will be able to carry if a catastrophe should once more visit our door.
I promise fire is better than a flood because when you go to clean up and start over, you don't get to see the lost memories. After a flood its hard to dig through and see your life covered in mud, mold, and mildew. Having to throw away ruined pictures and family heirlooms are like being assaulted twice. After our fire, we didn't remember some of the items lost until time had passed and we were in a new house.
To those who have been lucky, and never had to live a life-changing event such as this, whether you believe in a deity or not you should give thanks in general to the world at large. This is trama as real as anyone can experience.
Our prayers are with you and your family.
