| My first EVER writing retreat takes place this weekend with my wonderful, local Romance Writers of America group. I'm so excited, but so nervous. (The life of someone with anxiety disorder...) I already hit 50k in my NaNoWriMo project, but need 30k more to finish the book. Hoping I can knock it out! Heading home tonight to make some treats to share! Thinking... Maybe homemade Chex Mix, double decker brownies (brownie with a rice crispy on top,) or maybe some candied pecans. Decisions, decisions! |
| I need to share this with someone! My husband got a wild hair and decided to go through his closet full of old computer parts. On an old hard drive he found a file with the first book I ever wrote. I think I wrote it in 1997. I spent the last couple hours rereading it, and OMG was it bad! The plot wasn't horrible, but it's filled with head hoping and telling. Really makes me recognize how far I've come! |
| My office is comprised of five individuals: 1) Semi-retired, currently wintering in Arizona. 2) On spring break in Florida with her kids. 3) Celebrating sister's birthday in another part of Florida. 4) Called to say he "deserves a late morning." He'll be here after lunch sometime. 5) Me. Arrived 25 minutes before shift start. Sitting alone at reception desk with four empty offices behind me... Honestly, it's a nice morning. Quiet. No one's complaining. Four people aren't all asking me to do different things at the same time. Most relaxing Monday in a long time. Finished my entire to-do list in an hour. Now I'm off to work on my WIP. |
| Rewriting is going well! I have nine chapters "done." Of course, I've added a whole 10K in work count so far.
|
| I may or may not have been chased from my car into my office building this morning by geese... TGIF |
| I may or may not have just laughed at you. FYI, pilgrim geese are endangered, but they are actually friendly. They were specifically bred to be nice. You're supposed to eat the mean ones. That will teach them! |
| Geese are better than guard dogs lol. I feel for you. |
| My family used to own a flock of geese a couple years back. We raised them from goslings as an attempt to control the bug population in our disaster of a garden. We had eight or ten of them and when you have eight or ten geese marching on your porch demanding that you feed them NOW, they can get really loud. Like REALLY loud, to the point where it became difficult to hear one another when you're shouting and hard to think. They also tended to leave a lot of dung on the driveway. |
| Like many, I wrote from a young age. Mostly poetry and short stories. But sometime after college I stopped. More than likely, the essays and term papers did me in. Writing stopped being fun when I had to do it, and about things I wasn't interested in either. It was four years ago now, when my son was just a baby, that an idea hit me so strongly that I sat down to write it. I couldn't believe how much I missed it! In four weeks I wrote 80k and the first draft of Bound was born. I called it Kindred then, but realized the story wasn't done and the name evolved. Since then I've revised it twice, add to the word count and the narrative. And now I'm working on it once again. This is one of my favorite stories, and I hope that this time I've got the telling right. I aged the main character up, killed off a character, and changed some details. A lot of minor changes that make it a whole new feel. I'm feeling pretty good about this! First chapter went up early last week, and edit from that today.
One chapter down, twenty-three more to go. My goal is to FINISH by June. Editing is harder for me than writing. I tend to lose focus. Being that this is a rewrite more than just an edit, I'm hoping I'll have more motivation. That drive that pushes me every time a new story just has to be told. Anyone else have a story they just keep evolving? Or the issues I have with editing? How do you keep focused? |
| I haven't started writing my book, Ripped Wings yet but I plan to soon. It used to be called Caged Spirit but it evolved into something much different than what I initially planned. I changed the story and dropped the old characters including the main, Gabriel. The main character is now Christopher M. Parker. He's a spiutterfly humanoid. I can't wait to start writing it but for now I've been more focused on writing short stories connected to it. I'm not exactly sure how I keep my focus. I just start writing. When I write about Christopher the words just flow out naturally. |
| I aim to start reading it next week. My book is finished and I am editing it as well. I know how hard that is but I keep thinking of the day when I see my name on the best sellers list lol. Too ambitious, maybe? Well, if you don't aim big, what's the point lol. Keep going. It will be worth it in the end. |
I've added chapters 3 and 4 to my novelette,
"Invalid Entry" "Invalid Entry" Thanks to everyone who has checked out chapter one and two, I haven't had a chance to really look at the reviews yet as I had an unprecedented child-free weekend! Tony and I even managed to do dinner and a movie (finally saw Rogue One, and finished the evening with another movie, Arrival, at home. Both were great!) This novelette is due to be turned in next Tuesday, so I'm getting down to the wire. Based on a quick glance at the wonderful reviews I've gotten, I have my work cut out for me! Thanks again everyone. Happy to be here, grateful for you all. |
I've just added a new an item in my portfolio:
I stepped out of my comfort-zone and signed up to do a gift exchange on another site. The gift is a short story based on a prompt given to you. My prompt was: A train, a picture, and the title of "The _____ Tree." Here's what I came up with. I'm editing, but right now it's almost 15K. I'd love some feedback if anyone has time. Only a chapter edited so far, hope to have the second by tomorrow.... |
