The wolf is a majestic animal that gets a bad rep. due to ignorance and fear. Austrian researchers discovered that wolves will even howl in distress after they lose their mate, or even when a pack member leaves or dies because they have strong bonds with their pack members. This may show that they can suffer from separation anxiety just as humans can and they use howling as a way of mourning or showing compassion for their lost ones. I think this definitely disproves the stereotype that wolves are vicious and ruthless creatures http://heart-of-the-wilderness.blogspot.com/2013/11/wolf-howling-what-does-it-re...
It is a stereotype, but if one is to have one as a pet, they require a different teaching than a dog. More so than dogs, they need to understand who is the leader of the pack.
I would love to have my own wolf but I love animals, especially wolves too much to be so cruel to them. I know I wouldn't want someone removing me from my home and transplanting me to a restricted life that is so foreign that I couldn't grasp the rules. Not only that but you can never get the 'wild' out of a wolf. You may keep one for years and learn to feel safe around it but it can kill you or someone else without ever feeling any guilt or have the knowledge that he did something wrong. If a person were to find a wolf puppy and think it needs saving and takes it home, they better make sure their state allows the ownership of a wolf first because a lot of states have it outlawed. Secondly, they need to spend a ton of money on secure fencing. Personally, I don't think anyone other than professional wolf handlers should have them.
I had a friend that got a wolf as a pup, but it was a rescue. Actually, her issue was the wolf needed metal fencing so that it could see out. Then of course, you should never chain a wolf up. Well, you should never chain any animal up, but especially a wolf. He was protective, so people had to allow him to smell them before they were allowed in the home. If he smelled you and he didn't welcome you, there was no going in that home.

Sorry about the edits but I have been learning how to do the bitem and then noticed I had to put word count then saw that I should put the form. You get the idea and have probably been in my shoes at the beginning too. I hope I have it all straightened out now. I would appreciate it if someone could look my entry over and let me know if I have entered it properly and followed all the rules, if that is allowed. Thanks, Dianne Lowe Breakfield |
Thank you for your response. I am still learning and appreciate tips and helps so you were great. Let's be friends.
