A heartbreaking story that was captivating and well written. You had a very interesting idea for a story--a father who takes the pain of his child is a notion I'm sure any parent wishes they could have. By the end of this piece, I was so deeply invested it brought tears to my eyes.
My only suggestion is to possibly edit the way the story was broken up. Transitions from one section to another seemed a bit choppy and the story would flow even more smoothly if those were smoothed out.
This is beautiful-both the words and the image. I wholeheartedly agree that wordcraft is witchcraft and that the magic lives within all people, regardless of if they know it or not. Thank you so very much for sharing this image and those words with the world.
An interesting story overall with a very clear plot arch. The imagery within, the references to God and other Biblical instances, the references to fire and snakes, and the character descriptions create a vivid story within the mind of a reader. The phrase that got me early was "All the Devil could do is cause a sunburn." It gives a great indication as to the personality of your character.
The journey of your protagonist Dinah, from scared girl, to escort, to a woman finding love at last, is compelling and appeals to a variety of readers. The manner in which she cares for her sister, wanting to give her a normal life, and educating her through books, is endearing and is an unfortunately common story throughout our society today.
Well done!
Something I'd really enjoy seeing in this story would be a glimpse of the sister, Emily. She's this driving force and I always crave knowing more about those kind of characters. Nicely written.
