I'm the lead editor for a small independent press, but I am on maternity leave for the next several years and thus not accepting submissions. I'll tell you my professional opinion on first chapters or short pieces and whether I would have accepted it or rejected it if I was looking for work. I've dealt most with controversial speculative fiction, and I'm most interested in polyamory a.k.a consensual non-monogamy.

Review of Love

Welcome! I stumbled upon your work through the “read a newbie” feature.

I agree with many of these sentiments. It is important for people to love themselves first, and being in a relationship with someone who does not love themselves is a real drag. Receiving unconditional love from one's parents makes loving one's self a lot easier. Unfortunately, many people struggle because they did not receive unconditional love in the first place.

Happy writing, and I hope you enjoy it here!

I wish this was true. I've seen an artist's marriage fall apart over a younger woman, and they had a 9-year-old son.

This provides a lot of food for thought. Personally, with what I know of human psychology, memories tend to fade if they are not accessed regularly and kept alive. We treasure our most precious memories and forget what we had for breakfast two days ago.

Happy writing, and I hope you enjoy it here!

That's a big list of favorites! I'm familiar with many of them, but my absolute favorites are Ray Bradbury, Isaac Asimov, and Robert Heinlein.

Try avoiding forms of the verb “to be” such as is, are, was, were, etc. This is known as passive language. Using more colorful verbs can greatly strengthen your writing.

Example:
His favorite movies are Hell’s Angels and Rebel Without a Cause, which I think says a lot about him.

He loves watching Hell’s Angels and Rebel Without a Cause, which I think says a lot about him.

Welcome! I stumbled upon your work through the “read a newbie” feature.

I still feel this way about my first love from 2007. It's impossible to replace a person with another, so that's why I turned to polyamory. This way, I can still leave room for my first love if he ever comes back to me. However, I'm not going to leave my husband and boyfriend if my first love shows up demanding exclusivity.

Happy writing, and I hope you enjoy it here!

You've created a unique world populated with colorful characters.

Welcome! I stumbled upon your work through the “read a newbie” feature.

I've felt that way lately. I'm 35 and now seeking an autism diagnosis because life is very overwhelming for me. I have special ed records going back to elementary school. I believe that special ed taught me to mask autism and to stop complaining rather than to accept that part of myself. I've heard from people on YouTube and social media that it was once believed that girls didn't get autism, so I was given the label "emotionally disturbed" instead.

Happy writing, and I hope you enjoy it here!
