This story puts the reader into an absurd and disorienting reality. The central image of an aquarium replacing a couch, filled with "too blue" water and naturally colored corals, immediately signals a departure from normalcy. The introduction of the talking clock with cat legs and human hands takes the surrealism to another level, blurring the lines between inanimate object and sentient being. Tony, the self-proclaimed "not a very good psychologist," navigates these increasingly bizarre occurrences with a detached, almost dreamlike acceptance, often questioning if he's hallucinating. The escalating number of orange fish, their eye-watering effect, and the clock's cryptic, often unhelpful, responses create a comedic and chaotic dialogue. The story thrives on its nonsensical logic, culminating in Tony's mother's equally unperturbed reaction to the aquarium. It's a truly unique and imaginatively playful dive into a fantastical mental landscape.

This poem offers a stark, yet cool, portrayal of a man's morning routine. The image of him washing his face with "half-open eye" and the description of him as a "trouble-free loner" immediately establish a sense of solitude and resignation. The detailed actions—shaving, brushing teeth, a final rinse—ground the poem in the mundane, emphasizing the repetitive nature of his days. The phrase "No vital decisions at work to savor, An office of paperwork, making the push," succinctly illustrates his unfulfilling professional life. However, there's a quiet strength in his "air of resolve" and the refusal to "call in sick," suggesting a discipline. The poem captures the somber tranquility of a solitary individual navigating another day.

Truly incredible writing on this piece. The author starts off strong with a sense of imposing urgency building up, like the desperation is tangible. It then continues to maintain that high throughout the rest of the story, pulling readers along as Troy goes on the journey.

Review of George Loses It  Open in new Window.

Rated: E | (3.5)
This story has a clear idea which is good in that a hunter goes into the woods and finds out nature can talk back. It starts well, setting up George's goal and his usual hunting luck. The feeling of unease George gets is built up nicely, making the reader wonder what's going on.

However, the story could be stronger if some parts were tightened up. The whispers from nature are a cool idea, but they happen very quickly. It might be better to stretch out George's confusion and fear before he fully hears them. This would make the big reveal more impactful. Also, some of the dialogue from nature, especially the more sarcastic parts, feels a little too human for ancient trees or the wind. Keeping their voices a bit more mysterious or wise would fit the tone better and keep the "sense of suspense" ;).

The ending where George is found and declared insane is a strong finish, especially the detail about other hunters having the same experience. This adds a nice touch of mystery and hints at a larger pattern. Overall, it's an interesting concept with a lot of potential, just needing some adjustments to make the tension and the supernatural elements feel more natural and powerful.

Review of Accidental Love  Open in new Window.

The poem "Accidental Love" is a really sweet journey. It starts with a feeling of loneliness and sadness, showing how the speaker was kind of stuck in their own world. The lines about "stagnant tears" really sets that mood. Then, when love appears it's like a surprise a "flicker of hope" that slowly but surely changes everything.

I enjoyed how the poem uses the image of a "gentle rose" blooming to show the love growing and getting rid of the sadness. It was cool to see how the author linked something unplanned to such a strong connection, becoming "entwined" and married. The ending feels super happy and hopeful with the idea of a "love story written" and "lives to begin." It's a nice take on finding love when you least expect it. Great job!
