A poem about the psychology of consciousness. |
The Psychology of Being * * * Despair she strikes at our nudity, That state of inferiority before we Became whole, the childhood questions That were never answered, Childhood needs for safety and belonging That in a youth were put aside, But it is despair that exposes Our humanity, empathy; Which unveils our discernable culture, Heart-ache, which signals our Desires to feel connected, Doubt, which reflects our question-posing, Love, has no countenance, We give her the meaning and powers We play at our heritage of consciousness, In our love-roles, we pair sacredness with tragedy, Playing out the rite of our Most beloved and sinister secrets, The patterns of our oldest Psychological imprints; And we are as real as our love and despair, These wonderful fictions of our minds. |
