Thousands of peaceful protesting students were killed by Chinese army on 4 June 1989.
TIANANMEN

Fourth June in the year nineteen eighty nine
Saw the end of five decades’ suppression
When Poland after fifty years held
A free election to choose its leaders.

Peoples’ triumph in East Europe was matched
On this day in China by a vile fall
When thousands of students were massacred,
Protesting in Tiananmen Square, Beijing.

From fifteenth April till the Fourth of June,
When tanks rolled on silent, unarmed students,
This movement lasted for full seven weeks.
Though killed on the ground, it lives in the hearts

For justice, democracy, human rights
Heart of man has been fighting, always fights.
