A poetic portrait in honor of her 233rd birthday... July 4, 2009. (Form: Monchielle)
An American Palette

What is the color of
strength? Its subtle shades shine
in the way that we stand,
in a proudly held head,
in the touch of a hand.

What is the color of
peace? Does it softly glow
like the dawn's sun kissed skies?
It's the soul's gentle smile
that shines in our eyes.

What is the color of
freedom? Is it only
shades of red, white, and blue?
Under its surface you'll
find a yearning heart's hue.

What is the color of
a nation? It is seen
in its people's faces.
White, red, brown, and yellow -
a rainbow of races.
