When they were happening
That, those were the days
We never thought
That they were rare
Perhaps never again
That we were forging friendships
Memories and traditions that
Would endure through our lives

We didn’t know
That what we thought was ordinary
Was in fact extraordinary
That it was halcyon
Limitless and free
That talking around the fire,
Or walking over the mountains
In the starlight
Was the zenith of our lives

Now pictures flood back
Brought by the wind
And the scent of wild flowers

Youthful and handsome
