Musings about when a work friend leaves the company you both worked for.
Cindy

Here I sit at my desk,
just passing time during my lunch hour.
Alone.

My friend Cindy turned in her notice last Friday,
so she’s not here anymore.
That's the way it goes.

I’ve had so many casual friends over the years,
I can’t even remember their names,
or most of their faces.

We always say “let’s keep in touch,” and sometimes
we do for a little while, but it’s never the same.
What has bound us together is gone.

Usually we don’t have that much in common -
just work - as if that were enough to form
a firm foundation for a friendship.

Well, I have her phone number,
and I gave her mine.
We’ll see.
