|To The Patriot:
You are there doing what so many are not able to do. Serving your country in a way that requires sacrifice, perseverance, patience, and even bravery beyond the normal capacity. You are there in a land you were not born in, in the midst of a language you are only learning on the fly at times. You are there fighting for the core values that still are important to all. Freedom, peace, equal rights, an end to persecution, tyranny, genocide and other atrocities inflicted on innocent people by their governing bodies. You are there and you are to be thanked for what you do from day-to-day.
As a writer I can but express my gratitude to you in the words of an acrostic I wrote entitled "To The Patriot." I originally wrote this while in college and Operation Desert Storm was under way. We were mere miles from Fort Hood and heard the war games going on all the time. In the news was a story about a veteran who would daily stand on a bridge, with a flag and a sign seeking to bring the troops back home from the dessert. I wrote this acrostic at that time and waited for years before I found the perfect photo to add a part ot the acrostic to. It is that of a soldier on the field walking with a child from another country in a hot dessert scene. I gave the original copy of this acrostic to the veteran who daily stood on the bridge in our small college town to let him know he was not forgotten as well.
Now I share this with you, out there on the field, doing what many of us cannot do because of age, physical ailments. Making the sacrifice of leaving family, home, and life here to bond with your fellow men and women in uniform for the sake of freedom and liberty for all. Thank you Patriot and thank you again because it's the least we can say and the most we can offer from so far away. Your land, your home, your country, your people standing behind you and supporting you in letters from home.
Serving Him by serving you,
servant in Christ
Pastor David1: I know you served in the armed forces and I wanted thank you especially for that sacrifice and for serving the Lord as the shepherd of His children in the church. You may never know the total impact you have on your congregation but with this write know you are appreciated and thanked.
To The Patriot

"The day dawns and
Oh the sun does shine down.
Time takes its steady pace and
Here, where we serve our country
Every new day brings a
Practical application of our training.
A child looks up at me and in
That moment the sacrifice is
Right. To see a smile on his face
Is a boost to my heart and resolve."
On this day the War on
Terror continues on many fronts and
To The Patriot on the front lines this writer says thank you from a grateful heart and a sense of security as well as national pride. You are prayed for and not forgotten about here in the land of the free and the home of the brave. To the Patriots go this prayer.
"Lord, thank You for the ladies and gentlemen who have donned the uniform and stand in the gap. May the patriots feel the prayers of a nation supporting them in their efforts. May the loved ones who await their return feel the gratitude of the sacrifice they make in bidding safe journey's to the patriots. May these United States stand in unison and salute THE PATRIOTS, and may You cover them in Your protection and grace in the days ahead. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
