A poem about gossip

Likely culprit....the jealous ones
Owning their words, the day will never come
Our tight knit crew now compromised
Sinking our ship with hurtful lies

Captain, captain why won't you believe
The lies were told, but not by me
Misquoted was I, not my intent
But now I'm the one being punished

I cannot fix what I did not break
Funny how words can cause so much angst
Now I'm doing a quick backstroke
Even though my words won't keep us afloat

Why would one of our crew cause so much shit
Cause you and I are the ones swimming in it
There's no sane reason for flapping loose lips
Except maybe for sinking ships
