A poem about nightmares.....
The Night Fears

Between horror and feeling
Awakens the cry of dawn.
And in the thick
Stagnant stillness
Of this room
They lie;
Resting thoughts of evil
Flat and dead in wait
Of bodies
Innocent in their sweet sleep
At the dark hour.
And when the nightmare
Has destroyed the dream
There is time to play,
Brushing the borders of death
Like the edges
Of a delicate painting.
Scorched by the rising sun
They retreat again
At first light.
Only scratchy memories lie behind,
Fading scars.
And we are left to wonder
As the sun
Hauls itself into the sky
If those scars will bleed again.
Because even your
Night
Fears
May come back
To haunt your days.
