“Asparagus! Oh I don’t know”
“Come on now, give it a go.”
“But, I’ve never tasted it before,
It looks so woody. I’ll hate it for sure.”
“Sit right here, and take a bite.
Come on now, this is your night.
A dinner prepared especially for you,
It wouldn’t be right not to eat this too.”
I stabbed the vegetable, feeling forced,
and dipped the spear in Hollandaise sauce.
A steady grimace was prepared on my face,
lest my strong protest should go to waste.
“Hmm,” I mumbled, as it rolled on my tongue
Not woody at all. This was quite fun.
A flavour so different from any I’d tried,
My friend stood back, and smiled with pride.
“You actually like it?”
“I definitely do.”
“I knew you would,
I like it too.”
Another green vegetable now on my list,
A healthy choice that I almost missed.
