So, it's time. Let's see how we did. Are you nervous? No? Yeah, me neither. We had a fun year, didn't we?
In 2013 we…
...reviewed 159 items. Our goal was 300 total reviews done, which we managed, even if that last one was only done with two minutes to spare in the year! We even managed to win first prize in the February round of "Good Deeds Get CASH!" ! Not only that, we got reviewing merit badges from Writing.Com Support in January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September and December, and we also won the Captain's Choice award in the "WdC SuperPower Reviewers Group" March raid. It pays to review!!
...entered lots of contests. Our goal was to enter at least four to prevent ourselves from procrastinating.
In January we came second in the "Dear Me: Official WDC Contest" with "Dear Me" .
In February we came second in the short story category of "Project Write World" with "Not One More Acre!"
In March we won the grand prize in the "HONORING OUR VETERANS" contest with "Forgotten Grave" and we also won third prize in the "Invalid Item" contest with "My Dear Colleen"
In April we came third in the "Expressions of Emotions Poetry Contest" with "At The End Of The Day" .
In May we won first place in the "30-Day Blogging Challenge" with "The Kiwi Dream" .
In June we won first place in the "Shadows and Light Poetry Contest" with "Forgotten Grave" .
In September we placed first equal in the "Here Ye! 13 Reasons to Love WDC Contest!" with "13 Reasons to Love WDC" .
In November we came second in "Invalid Item" with "The Kiwi Dream" .
...did the Reeling In Your Readers course with "New Horizons Academy " . Our goal was to do at least one course, so we just squeaked through there.
...were chosen to be a Captain of the "WdC SuperPower Reviewers Group" which was a wonderful honour. The Power group was the very first one we joined as a newbie, and Maryann gave us our very first ever merit badge, so it is great to be able to give something back to that particular group.
...were chosen as a guest editor for the "Invalid Item" , and also the "Invalid Item" - to be asked was a great compliment!
...judged a number of contests! We helped to judge "The Kiwi Review Challenge! - closed" , "CLASH! - CLOSED" , "ANZAC 2013" , "Re|Write Contest. CLOSED " , "Words with Wings" , "Invalid Item" , a round of the "October NaNoWriMo Prep Challenge" and two rounds of the "30-Day Blogging Challenge" .
...were chosen as Angel of the Month by "The WDC Angel Army" for May 2013. Wow!
...put real effort into reading. We've always been a reader, and friends and family would be astonished to hear we needed to put effort into it, but the community aspect of WDC is so compelling that actually we spent hours on here instead of reading. And frankly, reading is nearly as important to learning to write well as writing is. So thanks to Fran 🏅🇬🇧🇬🇧🏅 and "The Book Club" we read 10 books every month since August, which is an excellent effort.
That's not to mention the "WDC Addicts Anonymous" group, "Invalid Item" , "The WDC Advertisement Board" , "The Lair - CLOSED" contest, the "Roots & Wings Group" and "Elle's Kitchen Newsletters" , all of which you started this year. Whew! So, you went above and beyond in 2013. Now that you're feeling all proud and pleased with yourself....how are you going to top that in 2014???
...rewrite, edit and polish the existing chapters of "Grand & Epic Adventures" , and then finish it. If we do one chapter a month, we'll get it done by the end of the year, and we can give it to the kids to read for Christmas.
...review four items every week, which is one review each affiliated with "P.E.N.C.I.L." , "WDC Addicts Anonymous" , "WdC SuperPower Reviewers Group" and the Paper Doll Gang. It doesn't sound like much, just four reviews a week, but I think we'll find it tough. Still, each group has the right to expect one review a week, and if we can't do that, then perhaps we've over-committed. It's a worthy goal, and we do well under pressure, so let's give it a shot.
...do some more study, specifically the review class at the " The Rockin' Review Academy " , "The Poetic Pen Workshop/Contest" (the PDG poetry workshop) and the "Once Upon A Time Workshop/Contest" (the PDG short story workshop). Learning is always a benefit and one we should continue every year.
That's plenty to keep us busy, but I know us well and we are definitely procrastinators, so I've got a few extra tricks up my sleeve. I mean, our sleeve.
I have signed us up to "Invalid Item" which will provide us with encouragement and support. Let's put our money where our mouth is!
I have set up a challenge or two at "Invalid Item" which will provide some friendly competition. It's a good additional motivator for us, I think.
So we have motivation, support, encouragement and even penalties (not that we'll need those, eh?). We are all set, baby! We can do this! 2014 is going to be even bigger and better!
As always, I am with you every step of the way,
