the haves and the have-nots

With no hint of pride and no hint of shame,
We stand as a family with no family name.
Aware of the rules and losing the game,
Someone stole our jacks and threw our balls away.

Others will see us and think we’re a fan.
We don’t have any instincts and don’t give a damn.
If your name is Samantha or if it is Sam,
We don’t give a sweat why you ran.

We woke up this morning and then went to bed.
Nobody knows if we’re living or dead.
Don’t dare get behind and can’t get ahead.
We’re lucked if our bellies are fed.

So, if there’s anything left and you want to share,
We’ll take all you have and still we won’t care.
You can care if you want and dare if you care.
But, pity not eaten wastes spare.
