Pride goes before the fall.

It goes before the fall when worth is wide;
high the opinion conducting conceit.
Such is the deadly sin passing as pride.

Sometimes the meek and vainglory collide;
then at the table there is crow to eat.
It goes before the fall when worth is wide.

Ego aloft to the humble acts snide;
casting aspersions brings on a defeat.
Such is the deadly sin passing as pride.

Dignity bows as it feels the divide;
suddenly there is a different drumbeat.
It goes before the fall when worth is wide.

Self-esteem goes on a perilous slide;
and the descent can be quick and replete.
Such is the deadly sin passing as pride.

Falling is fact that will not be denied,
seen by the rain and the snow and the sleet.
It goes before the fall when worth is wide;
such is the deadly sin passing as pride.
