an examination of life
The oak tree grips the earth,
With a strong and silent hand,
The ugly weed spreads its seed,
Across the patient land,
Young birds scream with hunger,
The lurching beatle settles under,
The stolid rock seeking shelter,
The grunting pig for roots will dig,
In the summer swelter,
The patient earth a sweet life gives,
The grunting pig for eating lives,
From this earth comes a  straining flower,
The tough and hoary oak,
Lives in steady growth,
He has taken no solemn oath,
Springtime brings us flowers,
After the soaking by April showers,
After summer the trees turn bright,
The one law that all must know,
Is to grip the earth, and grow, grow, grow,
Until growth becomes its might.
