It’s a crack in time, in space - in my very being. Or is it a hole, a piece missing in my soul? I can feel the grey texture of the stone under my hands, the pebbled remainders of what had been here insulting my wandering fingers. I smell the dry insult of stone dust in my lungs, hear the wind calling to the fragments - but what is it I see? I see the imprint of a sun long forgotten, the cracks radiating like rays from an empty centre. I see the cemetery of a star hitting the earth with too much force, penetrating its defences and leaving behind a crater whose cracks arrow out bleakly from a joyous flight cut short. The edges sharp and porous, threatening decay and injury to those who dare to touch. And in its centre - desolation, a void waiting to be filled. I smile. I see myself - a mind full of unfilled, undefined and indefinable opportunities reaching out to knowledge, experience and discovery. I see the future. Cracks are underrated - they break open possibilities.
