Death is always so near that in the end it is your closest friend.

A Grandpa’s Letter

To Death

To Death,

I evaded you once

I will evade you twice

but the third

I know I will be drug away,

Your cold hand

rests on my shoulder,

You hover over me

waiting for just the moment

to prevail,

You are my shadow

in the day,

the night owl

in the night,

the early bird

in the morning

and my weariness

in the evening,

you follow me like a hound

I evade you like a fox

but soon when I'm old I’ll

have to give in

I don't know why I don’t now

Death,

My dearest companion

Till death do we meet
