My date with a crazy person...WINNER of Sanita's "Make Me Laugh" challenge!
There was this new guy at work named Steve. He was there all of one day when he asked me out, and from sheer boredom, I said yes. We decided when we'd go out and he got directions to my house...and quit his job the next day. Since we had already made plans, I figured I'd just go and get it over with, especially since I had no way of getting in touch with him to cancel. He seemed like a decent guy, so I wasn't very worried.

When he picked me up, he said we'd go to Greensboro to catch a movie. This town is a 20 to 30 minute drive from my hometown, so I told him that would be fine. A friend was keeping my boys, so I told her I'd be back in a couple of hours. When we got on the road, however, Steve informed me he liked to take the scenic route...aka backroads, all the way. What should have taken 30 minutes max, took us 2 hours...one WAY!

As we rode, Steve did most of the talking...about himself. Trying to be a polite listener, I'd interject with thoughts or similar interests, etc...this was met with an irritated sideways glance and a "anywayyy!" before he dove back into his favorite topic...HIM!

We finally arrived in Greensboro, only to find we were 30 minutes early for the next showing, meaning we would have seen the previous show if we'd taken the highway. Steve suggested we go to a dinner buffet, so we did. I had a variety of foods on my plate and began eating when Steve arrived back at the table with...ONE pear, topped with cottage cheese! Out of ALL the foods on the buffet, THIS was what he chose. I assumed this was his appetizer, and thought no more about it and continued eating.

Of course, Steve was finished long before I, so he sat watching me eat, which was very embarassing, so I suggested he get himself something else to eat. He returned to the table a second time with... You guessed it! ONE pear, topped with cottage cheese! I left the remainder of my food and told him let's go.

To make a long story a bit shorter...the movie, Dragonfly, was very good...and the return drive home was the same as the drive there...except for the stops Steve made to show me the houses he helped build as a construction worker. I think he showed me EVERY house they had built. It took us almost 3 hours to get back home, which again was a 20 to 30 minute drive. So counting the "dinner" and movie...I was in Steve's self-absorbed little world for ...hmmm...almost 8 HOURS!!
