A word play about society
Sometimes I consider
Just why we have rules.
Rules keep us safe
On the streets and in pools.

And rules are created
To maintain some order,
Whether it's code
Or political border

They're meant to be followed
But sometimes they're swallowed

We fail to ask what
The rule makers thought
They were trying to get
For the price that they brought

On us all through imposing
One more limitation
On lives that are full
Of too much complication

And now are we free?
Can we ever quite see

What true freedom is
in this codified place?
While a single rule
May not be much on its face,

What costs to our freedoms
Do each of us pay?
When we put so many
Small rules in the way.
