Drumming Class. The best class of all.
Here I am, another day in drum class. I'm surrounded by amateurs, including myself. I've always been fascinated by the Percussion sound drums make. They can vary from a light tap-tap to a loud bang-bang, and everything in between. The Snare Drum is one of the most important of the drums. Then we have the large round center Bass drum, that is controlled by your foot in beat with the music. The louder it is the better I like it!
Just before drum class starts, everyone is playing on their drum sets whatever they want, banging on every piece of the drum set and tapping on the Cymbals. All of us making no real music, just goofing off with the clanging and pounding on the Basses. The teacher walks in and a sudden SILENCE is all we hear, then comes the serious stare down towards everyone in the class. We were just having a little fun, I'm thinking, nothing more.
The teacher picks up his Baton and taps loud on his podium to get our attention. " Class, today we will be learning a simple song called 'Stardust'. You will begin with a slow tinging of the cymbals and enhance the bass into the song gently. Now, set up your music sheets and try to follow along. Please, no banging, be soft until it's time to really get into the song."
" Let's begin." Ting, ting, ting, boom, boom, ting, ting, ting, boom, boom. "So far so good." He says happily when all of a sudden Darrel, a classmate(who is always late) rushes over to his drums and trips over a music stand creating a ripple effect of banging and crashing knocking the music sheets into the air flying all around the room. The teacher's hairpiece flopping over his head. Now he is getting MAD, and yells, "Darrel Smith, in my office NOW!"
Shucks, the class is nearly over. Time to clean and pick everything up before the bell rings for second-period class. Clumsy Darrel!
