New Horizons Academy's Course on Writing Outstanding Reviews
Exploring and Developing Outstanding Review Writing Skills
Reviewing is a tool implemented by writers who want to help other authors improve their craft. It is also an essential tool for writers who want to improve their own writing. A review is not a simple statement of whether the reader liked the piece or not. A review should be helpful, encouraging, and honest. Through the eight week duration of this course, we will explore the importance of reviewing, as well as develop your understanding of the following:
Story Structure & Plot Development
Punctuation and Grammar
Imagery and Figurative language
Discussions on how to structure your reviews to provide constructive feedback to the author, including personal impressions, perceived strengths, and areas for improvement will provide you with the necessary tools to strengthen the writing process for others, as well as for yourself. We will explore the creation of reviews for short stories, non-fiction works, poetry, articles, essays, novels, and novellas.
Key Note Discussions are a vital part of this course, if you do not have the time or are not comfortable with actively participating in weekly, on-going forum discussions, please reconsider taking this class. We all have so much to teach each other, and in this course, we do it in our discussion forums.
We hope you'll join us!
