a poem about heartbreak and resilience

Broke my heart
A gazillion pieces
Priceless promises
Couldn’t keep them

Unspoken lies
Vile diseases
Ruses and mis-truths
Shared all seasons

The other love affair
Kept me abuzz
Took oxygen from the air
Until I knew what it was

Now I wish I didn’t care
In the day or the night
I know I shouldn’t be scared
But it still isn’t right

I saw him the other day
Not sure he knew who I was
Took oxygen from the air
Until I knew what it was
