Memories of childhood friendship
Sitting on the front porch
listening to the wind
Can't help but retreat
to way back when
memories preserved in my mind
long forgotten pieces
Tucked away to find
There is a place in my heart
that lives way back when
A longing to return
To see my friend
What I wouldn't give
to live it again
Way back when
you held my hand
We Talked for hours and played in the sand
Way back when
we used to swing
Listening to our 45's learning to sing
Way back when
Summer nights were filled with butterfly nets and lightning bugs
And winter days building snowmen sharing gloves
Way back when
Jail break was our neighborhood fun
With our koolaide mustaches lying in the sun
Lemonade stands and football games
Building forts and bubble gum chains
Way back when
Neighbors talked to one another
We behaved because we knew they would tell our mothers
Way back when
We took long walks and talked about boys
Way back when
we surrendered our toys
Smoking cigarettes feeling choked
Way back when it was cool to smoke
Wishing I could go way back when
Tell us not to do it ever again
It's been two years
Since the cancer stole my friend
Empty, broken Filled with pain
I Pretend it didn't happen pretend it didn't end
You were Like a feather
A feather in the wind
I watched You float away
To way back when
