Flash Fiction
Surprise

“How far is this anyway?” James asked Trent.

“Just a little further, down this way...”

“How did you find this place, this is really out in the boonies.”

“I made a wrong turn when I was coming home last week and I was trying to find my way back, you know how I hate to turn around...”

“Yes...”

“Well, I thought if I made a big square, you know left turn, left turn, left turn I’d probably get back to where I made the wrong turn in the first place. I guess that doesn’t work as well in the country...”

“That works anywhere?”

“Of course! Anyway, I came to something that you’re gonna love. As soon as I saw it I knew I had to bring you.”

“What kind of place is it?”

“It’s a surprise!”

“I don’t like surprises.”

“You’re gonna like this one, you won’t be sorry!”

“I’m already sorry... how much further?”

“Here it is!”

“Ah, Trent? This is a cemetery...”

“I know! But look at the name! ‘James Trent Cemetery” It’s us! It’s our cemetery!”

“You are such an idiot.”

“I know!”
