Flash Fiction 10.22.2017
“You don’t scare me!” Alana screamed at the two boys who had just jumped out from behind the fence dressed as gruesomely realistic zombies. This happened every Halloween because the school gave the students permission to ditch their standard frumpy wool uniforms for one day to dress as anything they liked, within reason of course. Alana straightened her side braid and continued walking by the zombie wannabes. She was dressed as Princess Elsa, she wasn’t going to let the cold cruel tricks bother her anyway, she was so excited to see her friends and show off her outfit. The rest of the school day was pretty normal, three other girls in her class dressed as princes Elsa but Alana’s friends said she was the best. Most teachers gave out candy but, the math teacher gave an exam because she is basically the embodiment of evil, set out to ruin everyone’s day. She even keeps a jar on her desk that says, “Ashes of problem students.” Kind of freaky actually. After school, Alana walked home but as she approached the fence, the boys slowly crept out from behind it. “I told you this morning, you don’t scare me.” she said, trying to ignore how realistic the blood looked as it dripped from various body parts. As she walked by this time, one of the boys reached for her, ripping the sleeve of her Elsa dress. When she saw that her dress was ruined, she got angry and punched the boy in the face, but when she did, he head fell off and rolled, stopping up against the fence, as the body continued to move forward. She ran home, screaming the whole way.
